Dorset secret places

There are some places in Dorset that are a bit off the beaten track and not visited by hoards of people, and for that reason I love them. One of these places is Ringstead, which is how I imagine many seaside villages may have been many years ago. There is not much there - just a beach, cliff, wood and a few houses. There is also a small site with mobile caravans and a cafe/shop that is open during the season.

The weather was amazing on Saturday it was 15C degrees here. There were walkers, some divers in the water and people having a barbecue on the beach, but you could get away from it all and appreciate the scenery around you.

You can see the Isle of Portland in the distance.

Daisy enjoying the smells of the beach!

We found different types of seaweed
We found these different seaweeds close together on the beach. We tried to identify them on the internet when we got home, but couldn't find a site that would give us all the answers. We came up with Kelp and Sea lettuce, does anyone know anymore?

Although we have been here many times before we found a track through the woods, that we had never taken before. I love the complete contrast between the blue of the sea and the green of the ivy. There was the sounds of bird song and the tinkling sound of the water flowing out to sea, it was beautiful.

If you remember I had a give away of some Dorset Goodies, and the Winner is  ...........

  2. Hi Sarah,

Just read your comment on my blog. You are right, several invasive plants are beautiful! I don't mind growing a bit wild. It tastes delicious in tea.

Your walk across the beach looks wonderful. It's a delight to have such fine weather again. You can almost 'feel' the spring in your photo's!

    Happy new week,

  3. That white seaweed looks unusual!

I've only been to Ringstead once - and was taken aback by a seemingly never-ending stream of black-backed gulls flying west. It went on and on and on. We were awed.

(If you enlarge the photo, you'll see me waving from Portland.)

For IDs - may I recommend you take a look at iSpot? http://ispot.org.uk/
