A Mother

It's Mothering Sunday today in England so .....

What is a Mother?
A Mother has so many things to do,
From washing, ironing, cleaning to tying a shoe.
She scrubs, she mends, she cooks and sews,
She bathes the children and washes their clothes.
When they forget to wash their faces clean,
And their clothes are the muddiest you've ever seen,
Who repairs the clothes and scrubs them like new?
Of course, that is what a Mother will do.
Me as a baby
Who becomes the doctor or the nurse when they are ill,
Applying a bandage or giving them a pill?
Who becomes a teacher when a child has homework?
She must never her duty shirk.
Who becomes a detective to find a toy or a book?
For missing things she must look and look?
Who becomes a listener to every heartache,
To every accomplishment that a child makes?
Who scolds their children when they are naughty,
Or remind them of God when they are to haughty?
Who tends her family with love and patience, too?
Of course that is what a Mother will do.

  6. Thank you Sarah for reading my poem. Getting away from a lot of images to see if my poetry gains interest on its own is risky, but I have to do it.

HAVE A GREAT MOTHERS' DAY! Anita

  14. You and I are an ever decreasing number of people who refer to yesterday (correctly) as Mothering Sunday! It is not Mother's day here, that is celebrated in the US. I spent the morning making Cornish pasties as requested by my children!!!! Gorgeous tulips.

  15. Lovely post we love the term Mothering Sunday better than the modern Mothers Day as we consider it a Christian day.

  20. I miss the simplicity of Mothering Sunday in England. Here Mother's Day in May has become very commercial and with too many indifferent and expensive brunches at local restaurants.

  23. Lovely post and I'm sure you had a good mum's day!
Regarding the rabbit, it wasn't too hard to make up at all. I pinned it flat and marked all the points with cotton and just followed the instructions. Good luck with it if you make one.x

  26. Dear Sarah, I am sure the lovely photo with your small and sweet children makes you feel that it all has gone by (too) quick! I sometimes can't believe how time flies! In Switzerland Mother's Day is celebrated the second Sunday in May! So I have to wait a little bit more to hopefully get such beautiful flowers! THanks for your comment! I'll see how long my patience (and yours) will last! Take care, Christa
