Simple pleasures

There are so many simple pleasures to enjoy at this time of year- from a walk down towards the sea enjoying the changing colours of the sea against the abundance of blossom.....

The flowering of the sea kale

Views along the sea shore

Stopping at the local farm shops and buying good local food from the people who produce it.

Driving along lanes edged with cow parsley...........

Enjoying watching our pets having fun......

Admiring the flowers in the garden......

NB the wisteria wasn't in our garden unfortunately!

 and the wildflowers growing closeby......

Taking in the views of the landscape drowned in the evening light....

What simple pleasures are you enjoying at the moment?

  1. I've been watching a pair of wagtails building their nest, flitting back and forth with moss, grass and goose feathers

  3. Love your journey from sea to country in your photos Sarah. I'm sure I recognise those trees on the hill from our journeys down towards Poole. Next time I spot them I'll shout "Those are the trees"! lol :-)

  4. What I enjoy? My garden, the birds singing, the babybirds calling her parents, drinking a tea (from Britain) outside, talking to a friend in the garden.
Your pictures are lovely, I like seaside fotos so much.
Next month I will enjoy the shore of aberdeenshire for some days, with view at the water. I can't await it.

  5. Largely the same things - watching all the plants and flowers coming to life at this time of year is beautiful. Lengthening evenings. Fresh summer food coming into season - asparagus now and soon strawberries. The first picnics and barbecues of the year. It's a great time of year.

  6. You've made me heave a big happy sigh, it all looks amazing. I'd love to be that local food producer, living by the sea, doing things simply. My simple pleasure right now is a big mug of rooibos tea and the early morning sunlight before everyone else wakes up. CJ xx

  8. Lovely pictures, representing some lovely pleasures. So much better than battling through the traffic on the M25. My simple pleasure is standing at the base of the tree in which I built a nesting-box, listening to the chirping of a brood of baby Bluetits!

  12. Great pictures of a lovely life. I am about enjoying the same simple pleasures, but no sea in my surroundings, that takes me half an hour drive. But I too love walking with Snarf in our lovely countryside, watching the growing and blooming plants in my garden, my greenhouse, the blackbirds even coming into my kitchen, the jackdaws nesting in the dovecote, there is so much to enjoy.......Love this Life!

  13. And I am sitting here GIDDY with joy seeing you and Tavi, Sarah! I was just thinking of you last night and here you are. I am going to the sea in June, and I am taking many photos to play with and to remember. I TOO enjoy these simple pleasures, like watching the creatures enjoy themselves. Blessings of FUN to you! 14. We have so many lovely places to visit in the countryside and coastal towns...lately we haven't gotten out as much as we usually do due to DIy for daughter at her house, but hopefully soon we can get out and about the countryside and enjoy the fauna and flora! Your beach photos remind me that I've haven't been for a beach walk in a while...

  16. Yes, simple pleasures are often the best ... right now, seeing our little grandson (two at the end of this month) fast asleep on the sofa after his lunch! Seeing the roses come into bloom, ditto the paeonies, having breakfast in a local bistro (is that a simple pleasure, or not, because we pay for it?), sleeping in freshly laundered linen that has been line-dried, a simple tomato, red onion and basil salad with crusty bread, enjoying a 'new' book or magazine with a cup of coffee, baking (and eating!) lemon drizzle cake, switching off the television and enjoying peace and quiet ...

  23. Sarah, this was a beautiful post. The simple pleasures of life are the ones that count the most. Right now I'm enjoying the warm days and all the wonderful things that go with them - tea on my front porch, kayaking on the lake, vegetables growing in my garden, and all the beautiful colours that surround us as flowers and shrubs bloom. It looks like Tavi got his summer haircut!

    1. Yes Tavi had his summer haircut last week and then it turned really cold! I had to give him a thick blanket in his bed to compensate for the lack of fur! Sarah x

  26. Thank you for all that - it was like being there!
That sea kale is amazing, and I love the cat and dog romance.
Currently I am enjoying visiting the park (to see the tree I am following and everything else), and watching out for baby birds in the garden - so far a starling and three baby great tits.
Keep up the great work - it's a breath of fresh Dorset air...

  29. You do live in such a beautiful part of the UK, and I so envy you your proximity to the sea. But then again, I get to visit it here in your company.

  30. What a beautiful area you live in. I've been enjoying walking my dog across the barley fields (they catch the light so), chatting to my children, the changing seascape here on the Kent coast, gardening - all the growing that's going on!

  34. I miss the simple pleasures of the countryside so much! I try my hardest to keep life simple here in London so for me it's early walks on Hampstead Heath (admiring the meadow planting and picking elderflowers), listening to birdsong outside my windows (starlings are so noisy!), seeing my artichokes flowering and wondering when to pick them for dinner; last weekend it was watching red kites wheeling overhead when I visited the Chilterns. Bliss!

  35. The flower with the double deep purple head is an ostespermum and the argyranthemum. We always used to enjoy walking in Hampstead Heath when visiting London. It does feel like the country and the views of London from there are amazing too. Sarah x

  36. PS to my simple pleasures -seeing the hedgerows filled with wild flowers, 'our' blackbird who sings for us each evening, and just a simple cup of tea in our summerhouse between bouts of gardening.
