Different kinds of good weather

There is no such thing as bad weather -Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, and snow is exhilarating John Ruskin.

The sunshine and the picnic was delicious down on the beach,

as was the scenery and the sound of the waves crashing on the shore...

We watched the sun starting to go down before retreating the 10 minutes home to cook the sausages that wouldn't cook on the BBQ on the beach!

The following day a few miles down the coast a different kind of weather .....

The sky, sea and coastline completely different colours.......

There was no sitting on the beach with a picnic today!

At least there was no snow- just a typical British summer! As we walked away I overheard one person remark that he liked changeable weather when he was on holiday!

Do you think that there is only good weather?

  1. I love our British weather! I love the different sensory experiences it gives us and the atmosphere, the sounds, the sights... I like that we can experience all 4 seasons in one day! Life would be boring with only "good" weather!

  2. I do like the drama of the wind and high waves. But I have to confess I don't enjoy being out in it for long. A brisk walk to a welcoming pub with a hot lunch and a glass of something is just the job on a weekend like we've just had!

  3. Bad weather to me is the kind that has consequences and that's as likely to be the case with too much sun as with too much wind or rain. And then there's 'best' weather and I reckon the best weather for the beach is when it's a bit blowy.

  4. In Scotland I am used to the 'four seasons in a day' thing - but I do miss being able to plan outdoor occasions.

  5. I love the contrast! I love the sea on different days- it's lovely when it's stormy (as long as you're safe and wrapped up) as well as a glorious sunny day!x

  6. Beautiful photos - as always! Our weather here has been so unusual this year, zinging from 10 degrees to 40 degrees and back down again. So odd!! The only weather I truly dislike is when it's hot and humid together. So unpleasant! I'll take rain, snow, sun, cloud - as long as the temp stays below 28! :)

  7. I love that quote! I shall have to remember it the next time I want to complain about the weather. I think, though, the only time weather is a problem for me is when the uncomfortable kind goes on for too long! Like too much rain, too much humidity, too much humidity, and too much freezing weather for too long.

  8. Our British weather is so changeable.. I'm afraid I don't like it too hot or too cold.. Too hot and no rain, which we've had a lot of here.. dries out our sandy soil and affects our garden a lot. Too strong winds can do a lot of damage, as can too heavy rain, too much snow.. and of course the damage that lightening can do during a storm. But I do like a lovely warm spring day with a slight warm breeze.. perfect :o) See I'm not that fussy..lol ;o)

  9. I do like a contrast with the weather, couldn't stand for every day to be humid and as long as it is not too often it is sometimes great to curl up with a good book or some crochet and watch the rain outside while you are nice and snug inside. Where would us British be without using the weather as a talking point? However having said that I would like sunny balmy days when I go off to Devon soon, not humid, not rainy, not cold, not too hot - not that I am fussy or anything!!! xx

  10. Glorious photos of your beach days Sarah..variable though they were. Weather just is really isn't it. As a farmer I think that good weather is whatever we are needing at the time. I really love your collage with the sun on the foam and pebbles

  11. i love the choppy changing by the hour weather adds a sense of britishness having flipflops and rain coats! my dad always loved taking us to see the giant waves on the norfolk coast when i was young! we'd get sooo excited chasing the waves. I always love your delightful and beautiful photographs!!!! xx

  13. All weather is good to me. Summer obviously allows us to go outside and explore seasonal plants and flowers, to bask in the sun. Autumn is full of surprising colors, winter is PERFECT to stay in and create, to wonder and wander and spring is the reawakening of possibilities. No, there is only good weather to me, because in observing the changes, we are reminded that we are only guests on this magnificent place we call home.

  14. What extraordinary differences we experienced in the weathers moods from Saturday to Sunday, but you have captured both days perfectly.

  15. Sounds like a typical Belgian kind of summer as well. The weather you describe is very much like it is here.

I love the sun and I love snow but honestly, I don't like rain and wind, I just don't, and grey skies for too long really depress me. But maybe that's all because we have that kind of weather here too often. If it wouldn't rain that much and skies wouldn't be grey that often, maybe I'd be able to appreciate them more, ....or maybe not.... ;)

  16. I like both, sunny days and rainy days. Our climate with the changeable weather is at least not boring.

  17. Here's another observation on weather for you: "There's no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing". We're going on holiday to the Lake District soon and we shall certainly be taking our waterproofs!

    1. That observation is so true, I hope you don't have to use those waterproofs in the Lake District, although it known for it's rain! Sarah x

  18. We've been walking by the coast today and it nearly blew us over, quite exciting...the force of nature! I like all weathers, I think though, when you've saved all year and you only ever get glimpses of the sea, you have sunny skies in your head. If I lived by the coast, I'd embrace all that nature threw my way ;) xxx

  19. I think that in this country you have to be prepared for any sort of weather! Although, perhaps not snow in July hopefully! xx

  20. I love rough seas and I love calm seas and your pictures are proof of both - but for sitting on the beach and picnics definitely hot sunny days are the best - but going in the sea - brrr now that's a different matter altogether.

  21. I'm on holiday on North Wales and there's been a day or two of rain here. We went up a mountain and it tipped down today. We had a wonderful time. I love all of the weather, I'd hate it if it was the same all the time. My other half lived in Alice Springs for a while and it was sunny all the time. A cloud was a big event. CJ xx

  22. Yes, there is only good weather, but the wrong clothes. I like the weather in scotland so very much, it is a good temperature for me - the wather in south england in summer is to hot for me - I feel very well between 15-20 ° C.

  23. Gorgeous. I'm with you- no such thing as bad weather. The sea looks fabulous whatever the weather is doing. xx

  24. The sea brings it's beauty in good or bad weather... Beautiful photos! Thank you so much for sharing

  25. I guess we'd get bored if it was lovely all the time :(

  26. I love that Ruskin quote.
I love talking about the weather because sometimes you can get so many different sorts in just 24 hours.
I love all your photo's, especially the medley of the waves over the stones /pebbles.

You live in a most beautiful County of the British Isles.

Thank you for a lovely read.

    All the best Jan

I think is you have the right attitude, yes, there is no bad weather.

  29. I love how the weather suddenly changes and when a front comes in and you get those big gusts of wind, thrilling. I loved the storms we had a few weeks ago, they were fun to watch. Saying that, I'm actually wanting a bit of sunshine now to warm me up!

  30. Great beach photos--all of them! I love all kinds of weather. I am a cooler weather fan rather than hot (although I'll take hot weather every once in a while) so that looks great to me!

  31. I'm not one to really complain about the weather too much.

  32. How fortunate you are to live just a 10 minute walk from that beautiful beach! As for the weather, Canadians are known for never being happy with it, and I have to say I've lived here so many years I now finding myself complaining about it being too hot or too cold on numerous occasions. :-)

  34. Weather is weather; there's nothing I can do about it so I made up my mind some time ago to just enjoy it. Even if it's cold or wet. On the flip side, I really enjoy a good old thunderstorm in the summer - preferably at night when I'm tucked up in bed and, even better, with lightning and torrential rain! Caro xx
PS. Stormy weather on the coast where my parents live always brings up the best beachcombing finds on the next day. :o)
