Through the Garden Gate June 2021
We have been filling our life with roses this month! We have never had such an incredible display of them in the garden, at one point I considered counting how many blooms we had from our 16 rose bushes and climbers and came to the sensible conclusion that they must amount to thousands! How have your roses performed this summer? Rather than flood the whole of the post with roses, here are just a selection! Over the last few days we have had strong winds and now the garden is covered with a confetti of petals, just as well I have been capturing these fantastic flowers throughout the month.
Rose Felicia
Rambler Rose Apple Blossom you can see why it gets its name!
Rosa For Your Eyes only
The roses in the garden aren't the only roses we have been celebrating this month! West Bay Discovery Centre where hubby and I have had key roles as trustees and volunteers won a bronze award in the Visit England Awards for Excellence for Ethical, Responsible and Sustainable Tourism. An incredible achievement in just four years by a part time manager and 35 volunteers! Having achieved a gold in Dorset and the South West Tourism Finals we then competed against the finalists in 14 other regions and ended up 3rd best in the country! I even managed to find a dress covered in roses!
Back to the garden ...
Apart from the scent of roses the garden has been filled with the smell of philadelphus snowbelle and honeysuckle (not shown) while the ox-eye daisies and white daisy originally grown from seed light up the garden in the evening light.
Our huge patch of giant chives are so easy to grow and not only supply us with herbs for the kitchen but also are a cheap alternative to create of mass of alliums.
The front garden redesigned during lock down just gets better and better and is a pleasing sight when we return home, there is always something new to notice and is an insect heaven!
It is always wonderful to see other gardens from around the world and share our love of gardening. If you would like to join us with Through the garden gate this month, please let me know in the comments below and I will add you below.

What a wonderful selection of roses. You have obviously tended them well. Ours weren’t quite as good this year. Well done on that amazing award, well deserved I’m sure after all your hard work. I’ve been a little preoccupied of late but I’m hoping to take some photos tomorrow just as the month ends. Fingers crossed it’s not too wet. B x

DeleteCongratulations on the big win! Great photo! The roses are spectacular but the other blooms are too. The garden benefitted from the pandemic!
ReplyDeleteWell done on the award for roses, you have a spectacular display. Ours were all cut down last year when the new siding went in but are showing growth now, maybe late blooms.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I think you deserve to win! Your garden is always beautiful!

Congratulations on the awards for the Discovery Centre!
ReplyDeleteoh I do miss my roses. I use to have 4 of them, 2 hybrid teas and 2 floribundas but I ended up giving them away when we moved, hoping to get some more this Summer.
