Vintage finds

The choice of vintage items  for sale in Bridport has expanded! We already had the Saturday market and Vintage art quarter. (Links are to previous posts I have written.) In October a new venture called Molly's Den opened. I know many of you share a love of vintage items, so how about a peek inside?

Vintage cups and crochet

Glass items, vases and bowls are always the things that attract me!

A beautiful display and so much work has been undertaken at Thread End Street

Do you remember wooden jigsaw puzzle blocks like this?

I noticed this dresser recently before we bought one.- this one wasn't for sale but it still always has a wonderful display on items placed on it.

There are Molly's Den venues at Bournemouth and Winchester, has anyone visited them here too?

Tulips from the children
It's Mothers Day in the UK today, unfortunately my children couldn't spend the day with me, our son came home a few weeks ago, and our daughter was working. They did gave me a huge bunch of tulips, which they know is my favourite spring flower. Yesterday my daughter and I took the train to Exeter and had a lovely day together looking around the shops,

We finished off by stopping for coffee and cake at Patisserie Valerie, Their cakes are just like I used to have as a child.  My Mother used to treat us to these Käsekuchen in lovely German coffee shops, where we used to sit and enjoy the elegant surroundings and devour the delicious cakes. It was good to remember those special times together and create new ones with my daughter too.

I hope you had a good weekend too, thank you for dropping by.

  2. What is your German connection? Did you live there when you were younger? I spent some time there when I was in the Army, and I also have fond memories of coffee-shops and cakes. Also some wonderful liqueur chocolates!!

    2. Where were you based? I was in Fallingbostel (though my house was in Celle, which was a really beautiful town full of old-fashioned buildings).

    3. We were based in Lübbecke, Bielefeld and Gütersloh. One of my parent's closest friends lived in Fallingbostel, so we spent some weekends up there and have been to Celle too. Sarah x

    4. I'm guessing your Dad was in R.Signals then? I was in infantry and spent some time with 3RRF, as part of 1st Armd Div, though my own regiment was 7th Gurkha Rifles. Our oldest daughter was born in BMH Hannover.

  9. I think the thing I marvel at most in places like Molly's Den is the prices. I prefer to vintage shop in the places they probably do, the car boots and sale rooms and such, things are much cheaper.

What a pity you couldn't see your children on the day. I managed three of my four, but all separately due to their personal timetables, and face timed the other, which was all rather lovely.

  16. Hello dear Sarah, I love going to vintage fairs, but I haven't visited the one in Winchester even though my daughter studied there last year, what a pity, had I known I would have gone more often! Lovely photos Sarah, wishing you a week of sunshine (here's hoping!). Sharon

  17. Even from your photos, I can tell this is a shop I'd enjoy browsing in - those glass jars with lemons in would have appealed to me too! Looks like a brilliant shop for inspiration, I love that pale grey dresser - it's making me think about painting a wooden cupboard in my home … C x

  21. Hey Sarah,
Oh my goodness I would have died and gone to to heaven in emporia such as those! I have a thing about glassware too, but it's always the jugs that have me beat. Did you buy anything at all?

  22. Vintage stores are fun to browse because they're usually less expensive than antique stores. We have several in our area that only open once a month for 3 days and restock during the month. I also love what we call flea markets (I guess because in the old days people are fleas from them?) :-) I've not found fleas, but have found plenty of bargains like 18 pieces of Made in England Johnson Brothers "Rose Chintz" dishes for $7.

  31. Molly's Den opened in Winchester last year and is vast - acres of it! I occasionally wander around but have managed to resist temptation. I'm decluttering at home (in the sheds mostly) and reckon I could easily fill an acre of my own with 'stuff'. It's great to rediscover some precious pieces though - I'm trying hard not to add to any collections atm.
