Through the Garden Gate February 2023

What a difference a month makes! It's so good to see spring flowers emerging in the garden and give us hope that the long days of winter are coming to an end.

I love the colour details that Iris George (Retoculata) has to offer!

Under the hazel there is a mixture of hellebores and euphorbia appearing. Looking back at previous years it appears that there aren't as many flowers out at the moment compared with other years. Has anyone else noticed this too?

The weekend before last we had some welcome warmer temperatures and managed to spend hours in the garden pruning, cutting back and mulching. It was good to be outside again gardening.

Each year we try to add some more snowdrops when they are in the green and  is exciting to see them spreading! We have been so busy that we haven't managed to visit any of the well known displays in the area this year we still have a long way to go to achieve anything as spectacular!

Miniature daffodils and hellebores

What are the highlights in your garden this month?

It is always wonderful to see other gardens and watch their development during the year. If you want to join in with Through the garden gate each month please let me know in the comments below and I will add your site.

  1. Oh so much color! I love to see spring coming.

We are about 3 weeks ahead of normal here. It is already feeling like April. I fear we will have another Artic blast and it will kill the fruit tree buds but for now I'm enjoying the warmth and sunshine.

  2. I'm surprised by how far advanced your flowers are compared to here. I'm really looking forward to spring to arrive but it is still very cold here.

  4. Everything is much later this year. The present cold spell isn’t helping either. Love your hellebores and your Iris is beautiful. We had something similar last year but sadly they have fizzled out this year. B x

  7. Lots of colour, I've just planted my spring bulbs earlier this week, some yellow daffodils and orange ranunculus.

  9. I agree, not so many flowers this year. Some Blackthorn in flower, but no celandines yet, this is North Dorset on the hills. Lois of pussy willow and catkins, and wild plum showing leaf, but def. behind last year, Sarah Browne.
