A Change in Direction in 2025

After much thought I have decided not to do a monthly ' Through the Garden Gate' in 2025. Due to lack of time over the last few years my blog has mainly featured my garden rather than the wonderful Dorset coastal scenery that my blog is named after! I want to go back to my roots (no pun intended) and share more coastal images this year.

Although I was not born in Dorset, and spent most of my childhood in Germany, Dorset has been my home for over 40 years. Ten years ago we moved along the coast from Weymouth to West Bay. West Bay, originally known as Bridport Harbour is a small settlement along the famous World Heritage Jurassic Coast. The location has been featured in some film and TV series the most famous one which has been viewed around the world is Broadchurch, with our incredible cliffs playing a star role!

Over the past few years the cliffs have been eroding at an increasing rate thus cliff fall occured at the December and already tons of the debris have been washed away.

The River Brit enters the sea here and on cold mornings you sometimes get a thin layer of cloud as the river water flows into the sea.

Many thanks to everyone who has joined in with ' Through the Garden Gate' over the last 9 years, from all around the world, please continue to visit their blogs and beautiful gardens! If you are missing seeing a garden this was the first one in January 2016!

Sarah

  7. Sal I accidentally deleted your comment so have reproduced it here :We were only talking about Dorset, a few days ago! My son visited Dorchester on Saturday and he sent me a photo of the cafe where we went years ago, when he was young. ( It’s called ,’ The Horse with the Red Umbrella’.) I’ve always loved Dorset, even though I live in Devon. My dad was a Weymouth lover and as a child I spent many days there, mostly on the beach! I look forward to reading your blog, this year! 😁

    1. The Horse of the Red Umbrella was the first cafe I visited when I moved into the area with my parents over 40 years ago! It is fantastic that it still going so many years later! Our original plan was to move to Devon when we retired as we love Devon too, but at least we are closer so we can have many delightful days out in our second favourite county! Sarah x

  8. Goodness! Only just found your change of direction....
So..Yes! Overall...The Dorset coastline is, the very best...
Looking at a dramatic coastline, breath-taking views
and wonderful golden sands....So pack up your things
and head to Dorset, because we’ve got all this and a
    whole lot more...!

So what is the prettiest seaside town in Dorset?
    Lyme Regis.....?
West of the Dorset coastline sits the 'pearl of Dorset',
named the best seaside town in Dorset.22 Dec 2024...
But..we all have our personal favourites...Mine is.....
    Swanage....!

The huge variety of beaches and coastal landscapes makes our coastline one of the most inspiring and spectacular stretches of coast found anywhere in the UK.
