Cornish daffodils

Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly are well known for growing daffodils and while we were away we saw fields of daffodils, of course I had to stop and take some photos!

I wish I could share the scent of the flowers with you!

I always thought it would be wonderful to have a flower farm, but I recently re-read a book that I read as a teenager and it made me appreciate the difficulties involved. All of us gardeners will have failures in the garden from time to time, but how devastating it must be to loose a whole crop of flowers that you are relying on for income.

The book was called "Gull on the Roof" by Derek Tangye, he and his wife gave up the "high life" in London in the 1950's to run a flower farm in Cornwall. They lived in an isolated cottage with only basic amenities, with their beloved animals. Derek wrote many books, mostly about his life in Cornwall, see Friends of Minack for further information.

Bunches of daffodils are so cheap to buy, but bring us so much joy and colour early in the year.

  6. That is amazing. Just beautiful.

Good to hear that you are starting your garden journal. My journals have been a great help to me when I need to look back. My last garden journals were blank books also and just wrote what I planted, how they did and any future plans for the next garden season.
thanks for your visit and hope you have a good weekend too.
