By the sea at Christmas
Hello, I hope you had a lovely Christmas however you spent it. We had fun following our family traditions that have been built up through the years. Our pre Christmas walk contained constant reminders of Christmas ....
A holly tree full of berries by the sea shore
Pine trees reflected in the water
and a herd of deer.
One of our Christmas Day traditions is a walk by the sea - in contrast to the pictures above it was quite windy and cold, and it was nice to retreat home for our Christmas dinner.
Christmas is forever, not for just one day,
for loving, sharing, giving, are not to put away
like bells and lights and tinsel, in some box upon a shelf
The good you do for others is good you do yourself.
-Norman Wesley Brooks
I hope your Christmas was filled with loving, sharing and giving and joy too.

I love your walk but the best pictures are from Daisy in front of the tree. My mickey looks the same:) lovely greetings
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely walk. Were those the Sika deer at Arne?
ReplyDeleteThe sea looks very wild.
Enjoy having your young ones at home over the holiday!
Yes those sika deer were at Arne. We always seem to see them when we visit Arne!

Holly berries by the seashore looks wonderful. How special to see the deer. We managed a walk on Christmas day & a glorious one yesterday x
ReplyDeletelovely pictures, we went for a wal yesterday and I'm paying for it today! Most exercise I've had for a while haha!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a lovely day - we had a great walk in the New Forest on Christmas Day and enjoyed it so much we went back on Boxing Day! Misty has a favourite puddle to splash in and Belle runs round like a mad collie (well she is one)! Lovely pics - Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteI love the holly tree by the sea! Good to see you had a walk by the sea on Christmas Day, I didn't get down to the beach, we went to family who are far from the sea! But at least I could still look out the window at the ocean. Sx
ReplyDeleteThat first picture could almost be a tropical beach! We haven't had our cliff path walk yet, but I have NOT given up..
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely tradition! Merry Christmas Sarah! May all your wishes for 2014 come true xoxox
ReplyDeleteSo similar yet so different Christmas by the sea, we have a huge holly tree in the garden 30ft x10ft that was full of berries a month a go. I went to pick a few sprigs for the house it was bare all the birds had eaten them, no blue skies up here snow filled grey clouds :-( your walk looks tropical by comparison.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful sentiments and a lovely walk by the sea.
ReplyDeleteLovely pics Sarah- so nice to have the family together. And Daisy looks lovely in her Christmas outfit. I shall show Ted and Poppy :-)
ReplyDeleteThe walks are a lovely tradition. I am a bit envious as we've had nothing but rain so far and have stayed indoors practically all the time. I saw you had Christmas crackers on the table. I'd like to try those one day.
ReplyDeleteI usually try and make the crackers but I left it to late and had to buy some instead!

Such a beautiful walk my dear Sarah :) hope you had a great Christmas.!may you have a great new year :) hugs !
ReplyDeleteSuch a great quote and lovely to see your family together. Enjoy the rest of the holiday xo
ReplyDeleteThat first picture looks like a tropical desert island in the thumbnail version so I came to this post expecting to hear of your faraway holiday! Glad you had a good time. x
ReplyDeleteIt's a bit on a contrast from the weather you were experiencing on Dartmoor!

Lovely post Sarah. We enjoyed our traditional walk on Boxing morning which we found exhilarating and were lucky with the weather - blue skies and sunshine. We had two days of visiting and being fed and watered (should say wined) but did miss the laying of a pretty table for guests with all the trimmings. Good job really as I forgot to buy crackers! Yours looks lovely.

Such a perfect Christmas Day! We also take a walk on the South Eastern Coast of Ireland where this year we saw a sea otter dip into the huge waves. Many thanks for sharing your life down by the sea and for supporting me over the last year with such thoughtful and kind comments. May your 2014 be a wonderful year for you in your beautiful part of the world:~)
ReplyDeleteIt was very busy here in Brixham on Boxing day with the traditional family walk and some nice weather too. Agree with other comments that your first photo looks like a tropical beach. Lovely to see the deer and your family out beside the sea.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely Christmas tradition. We too took a walk along the beach on Christmas Day, but poor Steve was home ill. It was in the 80s so we were in shorts and bathers were out without wetsuits.
ReplyDeleteYour Christmas table looked beautiful.
Your first photo looks like an exotic, remote beach! Hope you had a lovely Christmas!

I cannot believe that you have a beach that looks like its in Hawai.. It looks beautiful.. I have always said i like the area you live in.
ReplyDeleteIts lovely to keep up family traditions. Miguel cooked christmas lunch.. and even made grandma's triffle. Traditional turkey and stuffing. So he will continue that through his life..
So lucky to see the deer. great post Sarah, and lovely photos of you and your family
Wishing you all a Very Happy New Year.
All the best for 2014.. more blogging stories and tales.

ReplyDeleteSo pleased that you enjoyed a lovely family Christmas Sarah - I love the first photo with the sea gentlylapping the beach and framed by the wonderful holly bush.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds wonderful Sarah and you know how lucky I think you are to live by the sea! Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a perfect day. Glad you had a lovely time.
ReplyDeleteI have yet to have a walk since Christmas day (though I did go to a Pilates class). The weather has been so wet and stormy and I have been so comfortable by the fire....! gosh that sounds feeble. Will follow your example tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteHello Sarah, I have been absent for awhile. I have missed reading all your lovely posting especially when you go for your walks along the sea shore.. What a great tradition. Your wee puppy looks like Jock on the Hamish Macbeth DVD series which we love watching.. I would like to wish you a Very Happy and Healthy New Year.. Hugs Judy

ReplyDelete...and thank YOU sweet Sarah, for always taking me to the sea with Daisy. It surely was a fabulous trip back "home" to California where I was born and raised, and to breathe in the ocean air.
