Review of 2016 through nurturing a sense of wonder

My one resolution in 2016 was to nurture my sense of wonder and renew my delight in the mysteries of earth, sea and sky. For once my New Year resolution didn't fade into the midst of time and I have had a wonderful year appreciating nature all around me and also sharing it with you. Here are some of my favourite moments of the year.

Solitary bee on the pussy willow in March

The bay full of fish that attracted seagulls and fishermen

Morning light breaking through the mist

Sunset at West Bay

Eype beach with rolling clouds

Mist and sunrise

On the beach

A frosty sunrise

I  started the year with this quote from Rachel Carson and it is just as relevant at the end of 2016 too :-

The more clearly we can focus our attention on the wonders and realities of the universe about us, the less taste we shall have for destruction.”

Wishing you a joyful, peaceful and healthy New Year!

  9. Dear Sarah, happy new year to you and your family. You've chosen some beautiful photos that capture the wonder of nature. We live on a beautiful planet and it's the small simple things like taking a walk along the beach or in the countryside that makes us appreciate life in general. Blessings to you for a healthy, happy and joyful 2017.

  10. A fine quote, a fine quote indeed. We need to get our heads UP and looking around us to enjoy this flesh and blood and carbon world of ours and put aside the silicon tools (phones) long enough to see. You have beautifully captured your world Sarah! Happy 2017 and may our goals be realized by hard work and determination!

"Hope smiles from the threshold of the year to come, whispering, it will be happier."

  27. Hello Sarah, these are all so beautiful I couldn’t begin to pick one above another. But I do keep going back to ‘Morning light breaking through the mist’ and the one on the beach. Your little dog looks so joyful. We used to have a little Cairn terrier called Rosie. She died four years ago, but we still miss her and the walks we took together.

  29. You must have kept your resolution well, Sarah, because, all through the year, your blog was packed full (and spilling over) with a sense of wonder and delight in earth, sea, and sky. Thank you for spreading the fruits of your resolution to all of us scattered around the world. Your photo of the solitary bee deep in pussy willow pollen is exquisite. As for the Rachel Carson quote, unfortunately too many people believe that plants, animals, geology, water--all of it--exists primarily for the use of humans. Until we truly understand that we are just we are just an arrogant, busy little species, with a capability of destruction all out of proportion to our importance, I fear we will never really learn to cherish the world around us.
