Through the garden gate February 2017

Despite a visit from Storm Doris this week, it does feel as if things are moving towards Spring in our garden.

 The arabis is already in flower


The miniature daffodils have joined the other flowers of primroses, hellebores, violets and snowdrops,


 and these colourful primulas in the flower pots.



 I even managed to spend some time in the garden last week tidying up the borders and gave the grass it's first cut! The raised borders don't look very exciting at the moment but I can see some of my Sarah Raven tulips just starting to emerge.






 Last weekend it was my birthday. It was lovely being able to celebrate with our children, among my presents were these lovely tulips and some solar beach hut lights for the garden.

 Thank you for the good wishes for my husband, he is recovering well although he is finding it difficult not to do too much too soon.

    As someone who lives in a perpetually lovely climate, this winter has been very hard on me. My garden is so happy with all the rain, but we have few flowers yet.

      They are a tiny bit small, hopefully I can reuse them when the solar lights stop working in about a years time! Sarah

    Your climate is much warmer than mine yet I think I need a globe as I think you are farther north than I. Nothing happening really in my garden but a few daffodils and planting some bulbs. I can't wait and what a green lawn you have. Mine is deader than a doornail.

    Broadchurch tonight! Yay! (First series brilliant. Second series a disappointment - altogether rather odd. Fingers crossed third will be back to brilliance.)
    Your garden is a bit scary too. So incredibly, incredibly tidy!
    Do you get the feeling that varieties of daffodil one might expect to flower sequentially are coming out more at the same time this year?

      Everyone I have spoken too didn't think much of the second series, they promise this one will be better and more like than first one! I haven't noticed all the daffodils coming out at the same time, I will have to look out for this! Sarah x

      Yes although rape scene is one of our special places. It was where we got married and the lake the location for our wedding photos! Sarah x

    I watched Broadchurch tonight, as usual I couldn't take my eyes off the TV. That's good because I fall asleep watching most other programmes.

    I love wandering through English gardens as there are so many plants that I cannot grow here in Australia unless I lived in the hills or cool mountains.
    My mother used to grow Primulas, Primroses, blue Bells when we lived in Stirling which are in the Adelaide hills.
    I would live it if you added me to your list please

    Really good characterisation in last night's Broadchurch, it promises well - although you could have done without a rape at a place that has such happy memories for you!
    I would love to join you through the garden gate. Im itching to be in the garden but the weather is keeping me undercover. Lots of kindling wood down thanks to Storm Doris so the best place to be for now is by the log burner with a good book!

    Looking good, Sarah. I keep putting off venturing into the garden, it's not cosy enough... We saw the first episode of 'Broadchurch' and might persevere. The first series was good - with some great acting - but dragged on far too long! Belated birthday wishes - many happy returns!

    Your garden looks very tidy. I have loads of work to get mine up to speed, but we are getting a blast of winter weather this weekend. I am not sure when Broadchurch will start again here but the rape scene will certainly have new interest for me now. I can just see my husband's look when I say, "lovely place to get married."

    Hello,
    today the Galanthus, Leucojum and Crocus show the first flowers in this year. I think here in Germany nere the River "Mosel" it is not as warm as in GB but warmer than in other areas from Germany.
