What a difference a day makes!

Deluge: A rainbow offers little cheer at this flooded car park, to be used for the Olympics
Picture taken from Daily mail web site
On Saturday it rained and rained and rained all day. We had a months rainfall in 16 hours in Dorset and most of the rivers in the area burst their banks, and there was flooding. We were lucky as we live half way up a hill , so we weren't too badly affected.

Sunday was such a contrast, the sun shone and you couldn't believe how bad the weather had been the day before! This weekend Weymouth had its annual sea festival, but as the weather was so bad it was cancelled on Saturday.

When the sunshine reappeared so did the crowds!

The effects of the flooding could still be seen. The local Gurkha restaurant was badly damaged.

The swans seemed to be making the most of the extra water!

My husband John went out into the garden to dig up some new potatoes and within a spades depth he met a huge pool of water. The first time that this has ever happened in all the years we have been gardening!

Thank you for Lucent from Australia and Carolyn from New Zealand for hearing about the bad weather and thinking of us.

  1. The flooding photos show just how bad nature can be - the Gurkha Restaurant photo I saw in the paper - what devastation. We had a lot of rain here over the weekend and not a lot of sunshine. When will Summer begin?

  2. Dramatic floods in Weymouth! I hope this doesn`t happen when the Olympic Sailing is in progress. Good to see that people still turned up to enjoy themselves on Sunday.

My son lives near Wareham and apparently North Street was under water this afternoon.

    Stay dry and safe.

  6. I missed the big floods in Brisbane, Australia in January 2011, but one thing I do remember is my friends telling me how surreal it was to be cleaning up from the floods in the days after, when the sun was shining and the days were HOT (it was summer time, after all). It made the floods feel like a dream, except for the devastation lying all around.

I hope Dorset gets back on its (dry) feet soon!

  7. It's so sad to see people's lives and businesses turned upside down like this, some will recover over time but some never do. We had a lot of rain too but fortunately no floods this time. Hope you're well and safe.

  8. Dear me, it is a bit wet isn't it? Tragic that weather can cause such devastation. Beautiful rainbow though, you were very lucky to catch that, it's like a child's drawing of one, whole and perfect. Glad you weren't too badly affected and hope it stays fine for you xxx

  10. My heart goes out to all those affected. My home means so much to me it would be hard to imagine losing everything in a flood, Ada :(

  11. It must be heartbreaking to be flooded. We seem to have got off lightly though the courgettes and strawberries are rotting in the warmth and damp!

  19. Gosh, that's a lot of water! Our little corner of Wales seemed to miss the worst of it this time, but we still got pretty wet and have rivers in flood. Hope the sun's still shining on you :D
